National Writing Day is an annual celebration of writing designed to inspire people across the UK to get writing. Their key message is that 'everyone has a story to tell and sharing it can be a source of pleasure and power'.

On this National Writing Day 2018, we quickly share some thoughts on 'owning a story' and one persons inspiration to write.
"Once I started to write again, I had a problem with in my conscience, about the ownership of a story. It happened to me. It was my story. It is my story. It's just it isn't my story alone, and I questioned whether I had the right to tell it, because telling mine, tells someone else's.
It is a story that, if I was them, I would not want told. It is tied to people, to a place and time, and that doesn't feel fair on those that may never want their story repeated. A 'what if' of deduction that may be remote, but it's enough to make me question the consequences - on them and on my heart.
I still had to write. I had so much to set free from my mind, so I returned to a person I was such a long time ago - the person who would write for hours telling stories that would never be read, because of the release it gave. Feelings experienced, wrapped in situations that never happened and experiences had, given to people that never existed. I was, in the strangest of ways, suddenly home."
