“Is it wrong that I don’t want her to be like them? Is it wrong that I want her to be more like me? Isn’t that what we do? Raise our children to have morals like ours? I don’t care about what clothes she likes, or music she likes, or what she wants to be when she grows up. I don’t mind if she’s shy or gregarious. I just want her to be kind. I want her to consider other people’s feelings when she speaks. She has a right to question, to challenge, and to stand up for her, and others, rights but I want her to do it with kindness and respect. I want her to be a good person. A thoughtful, respectful, considerate, caring person. She doesn’t need to be perfect, but I just don’t want her to be unnecessarily rude and mean.”
